Wayne-Dalton Announces New Torsion Version of the idrive® OpenerMt. Hope, OH (July 1, 2003) Wayne-Dalton is rolling out a new version of its innovative garage door opener, the idrive, which works on doors with torsion spring counterbalances. idrive is Wayne-Dalton’s exclusive garage door opener that attaches directly to the wall above the door, eliminating the bulky rail that normally extends into the garage. Until now, the idrive only worked for TorqueMaster™, Wayne-Dalton’s unique spring system that encloses the springs inside a steel tube. Many homes, however, utilize torsion springs since they have been in existence much longer. The new idrive model for torsion springs allows people to enjoy the opener’s many features on their existing torsion spring doors. It also allows them to use the opener on doors such as wood Carriage House doors where TorqueMaster is not available. Aided by computer-driven technology, the idrive opener offers an unprecedented mix of features and benefits that make operating a garage door quieter, safer, and more convenient. The most drastic visual aspect about the opener is the elimination of the bulky rail that extends above the garage, as is common for other openers. The idrive opener mounts to the wall directly above the door. When activated, it simply turns the torsion tube to operate the door, eliminating the need for any rotating chain, screw or belt drive mechanism. The lack of a chain or screw drive rail is a big reason for idrive’s most compelling benefit – its smooth, quiet operation. Since many mechanical parts common to chain or screw drive openers are eliminated, noise is naturally reduced. A special motor and gear train mechanism designed to limit noise output contributes further. Without a rail attached to the ceiling, noise and vibration are not transmitted to any room above the garage. The idrive opener has a series of exclusive safety and convenience features that can be operated from its wireless wall station, such as a pet button that opens the door to a height specified by the homeowner and a ten second closing delay. The side location of the release handle offers easier access and greater security, as opposed to release handles that hang at the center of the door. Wiring between the opener and the light is not required, allowing the light to plug into a standard outlet within line-of-sight of the opener. The omission of wiring for the light and wall station is a significant cost advantage since there is no need to pre-wire for either. A standard security feature of idrive is rolling access codes. This changes the code of the opener and remote transmitter after every use. With such technology, thieves are prevented from stealing an unsuspecting homeowner’s code to break in by using a code-grabbing remote.
